The Prizes
Three juries judge the films in competition for LUCAS:
The LUCAS jury-unique worldwide-is composed equally by children and adults (5 of each). For the first time, this year the LUCAS jury will give away a 7,500 Euro main prize and a 3,000 prize for short films.
The jury of the International Association of Film Clubs (FICC), comprised of three experts, has given since 2004 the Don Quixote Prize to one film from the competition.
A Festival Award is given on Saturday, September 12.

Film Discussion
Many of the directors of the films in competition travel to Frankfurt for the festival. They are excited for the opportunity to talk about their films and discuss them with the public here. The film discussions take place in connection with the screenings. Those who would like to know more about filmmaking are heartily invited to pose their questions here.

In-Cinema Live Translation
All the films screened in the LUCAS competition are totally new and have never before been shown in German cinemas. Hence, they are shown in the original language. So that the visitor can understand what is going on in the films, they are translated into German live in the cinema.

Training for Educators
The cooperation amongst schools, teachers, and schoolchildren has expanded further this year. The medium of film and its effects are ever more strongly incorporated into the news. Participation in our accompanying seminar is recognized as official training for educators.

TRICKBOXX
As a supplement to the film program and for active processing of that which is seen, the children’s atelier of the German Film Museum has, since 2007, offered various activities during the festival week. Visitors can experience active and creative filmmaking for themselves with our cut-out animation, stop-motion technique, and other workshops. With the TRICKBOXX from KI.KA, a mobile animation studio, children can make their own LUCAS festival films through cut-out animation and claymation techniques. And those who wish can write down their opinion of the festival film.
